About the Department

Department of Chemistry was established in the year 1980 as a Basic Science department. The department is recognized as a research centre in the year 2010 and offers Ph.D. programme which is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi, Karnataka.

Department has undertaken the project entitled “Possible Environmental Pollution and Health Effects from Fluoride in Bijapur District (Karnataka)” (2013-2016) in collaboration with B.L.D.E. University’s Shri. B. M. Patil Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre, Vijiayapur. The department has also received two research grants from Vision Group on Science and Technology (VGST), Govt. of Karnataka and one research grant from VTU, Belagavi.

Faculty members are actively involved in Teaching and Research activities. Major research areas are Electrochemistry, Chemical Kinetics, Phyto chemistry, Metal Toxicity and Nano Technology. Faculty members have published many research papers in journals of repute. The department has well equipped laboratory with sophisticated instruments as per VTU syllabus.
