Dr. A. S. Jadhav

Head of the Department

About the Department

The department was established in 1980 to provide state-of-the-art education and training in the field of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. M.Tech. in Microelectronics and Control Systems was started in 2013 with an intake of 18.

The department offers B.E. in Electrical and Electronics (four years) with an intake of 120 and an M.Tech. in Microelectronics and Control Systems (two years).

Co-Curricular and Training Activities

  • AICTE/ISTE/VGST sponsored summer school/workshops/conferences on various advanced topics in electrical, electronics and software emerging fields are periodically organized.
  • Various committees have been constituted to monitor academic excellence and other activities.
  • Excellence in co-curricular and extracurricular activities is encouraged among students to mould them into full-fledged personalities through ESSA.
  • Personalized counselling and parental care are taken under the local guardian-teacher scheme, where 20 students are assigned to each faculty member who gives personal attention to them.

Alumni and Placement

  • Alums of the department are well-placed in many Leading companies across India & abroad.
  • The unit maintains an excellent placement record of eligible students.

What Does an Electrical and Electronics Engineer do?

Electrical and Electronics Engineering deals with basic electrical engineering, electrical A.C. machines and D.C. machines, transformers, electrical power generation and economics, design of electrical devices, switchgear and protection, electric network theory, electrical power utilization and transmission and distribution of electric power.

It also deals with designing and manufacturing A.C. and D.C. electrical machines and transformers with economic and environmental considerations per industrial requirements. Testing electrical equipment, devices, and switch gears before installation or replacement situations in power systems and electricity rules and regulations for consumer and power distribution authority is also the job of an electrical and electronics engineer.

New efficient electrical machine and equipment designs, plans and implementation for energy-saving schemes in an industrial environment with software control techniques also come under the scope of electrical and electronic engineering. This field also addresses real-time electrical engineering problems in power generation and distribution systems.

Other key areas include:

  • Analogue and logic design electronic circuit theory
  • Power electronics in industrial control circuits
  • HVDC transmission systems and electric traction systems
  • The utilization of microcontrollers and signal processing in many industrial applications and automation systems
  • Software knowledge in new developments like energy saving schemes, soft grid techniques in advanced power systems, etc.

Scope of Electrical & Electronics Engineering

The progress of a nation depends on the quality and quantity of electricity, which is an essential requirement in industrial applications, irrigation and transportation sectors.

Today, every country faces the challenge of meeting the gap between power generation and demand. Therefore, the focus now is on energy-saving schemes rather than installing new generating plants. Energy-saving can be achieved by using energy-efficient electrical equipment, energy-saving strategies and innovative software control techniques.

The mathematical modelling of machines and power systems is used in simulation studies, encouraging the up-gradation of practical skills to make critical decisions in the power system.

Career opportunities for an electrical and electronics engineer

  • Electrical machines, transformer, switchgear components design and manufacturing organization
  • Electrical power generation, transmission and distribution sectors
  • Companies that are engaged in the design and manufacturing of emerging renewable energy systems like wind power, solar power, tidal power, biomass power and tidal power
  • Energy managers are hired in commercial industries for the efficient use of energy. They are also in demand in designing and manufacturing electronic power controls in industries (Steel, cement, chemical) and electric trains, direct control, testing and production process.
