About the Department

The department of Mathematics came into existence in 1980, with the establishment of BLDEA’s College of Engineering and Technology, Vijayapur. The department started with one visiting faculty Prof. N. C. Biradar, S.B. Arts and KCP Science College, Vijayapur. Later Smt. P. M. Hiremath joined as lecturer in the department in 1986. Further, in 1989 Prof. P. K. Gonnagar joined as lecturer and Dr. H. P. Patil worked as lecturer from 1992-1994 in the department and slowly the number of faculty members in the department has been rising according to the need.

Under the leadership of Dr. P. K. Gonnagar, who assumed the charges of HOD in 2003, the department has flourished and being recognized as Research Centre by Visvesvaraya Technological University from 2010. It offers Ph. D. in Mathematics programme. With the cooperation and encouragement of Dr. P. K. Gonnagar, the family of Mathematics department has come out with four doctorates from Research Centre under the guidance of eminent professor Dr. G. C. Sankad. Research activities are at its full fledge with eight research scholars in the department with four dynamic guides Dr. G. C. Sankad, Dr. S. C. Desai, Dr. M. Y. Dhange, and Dr.(Mrs.) A. B. Patil. It’s a matter of pride to the department of Mathematics that, the former HOD Dr. P. K. Gonnagar is worked as vice principal of our college for the period of three years. The department is presently headed by Dr. S. C. Desai with five doctorates faculty and three faculty members are pursuing their Ph.D.
